What were your first impressions of the Companion Watch?

“Brilliant. I tried out many other personal alarm watches and pendent alarms but since getting my Companion Watch it hasn’t left my wrist in 3 years!

No one notices that my companion watch is anything other than a normal watch, in fact it passed the fashion test from my two granddaughters!  People are then amazed when I start showing off its safety and wellbeing features.

Explain your experience from ordering your watch, to wearing it

On placing my order, I was quickly introduced to my Companion Advisor. He provided me with tracking information for my parcel - which was delivered the next day.

The watch and charger was easy to unbox and simple to setup. Actually, the getting started instructions are better than a lot I’ve seen. The diagrams are clear and they don’t overcomplicate anything.

My Companion Advisor carried out a quick network check, to ensure all was working fine. Then after a successful test of the SOS button, the watch was ready to wear!

How easy was it to setup?

So easy! My Companion Advisor (Mark) made contact with me, after purchasing the watch, and helped get everything setup and personalised to my needs.

This meant the watch was ready to wear, on arrival, with all my contacts and alert choices ready to go.

After wearing the watch for a few days, Mark hosted a free getting started zoom session, with us, to answer any questions we had -  offered suggestions on getting more out of the watch features - he was very impressive, friendly and polite.

How did it feel to wear?

Honestly, sometimes I forgot I'm wearing it.
 
I have small wrists and the standard leather buckle strap is very soft and comfortable. I also spoke to my Companion Advisor and he sent me some solo loop straps to try - which doesn't have a buckle - making the watch easy to put on and take off.

The watch feels light and so I wear my watch all the time - during the day and when I sleep.

Do you use your watch in the bath and shower?

Yes, I always wear my Companion Watch in the bath and shower. It only needs a quick dab with the towel and it is dry.

I know with some personal alarms they don’t like you to put them near water but for me that’s when I’m most at risk of falling.

Question 6

What is the battery life like?

Really good! I only need to charge it once every 6 days, and when I do I just pop it on the charging station, it makes a happy noise and has a green light when it is fully charged, after about an hour.

Whats your experience of the automatic fall detection?

I have triggered the fall detection alert, a few times, over the past 3 years. Fortunately, I didn't need help on those occasions and it is really easy to cancel the alert – you just press and hold the big crown button, until you fill up the cancel bar.

I’d prefer it to be sensitive and easy to cancel than not go off when I need it.

Making telephone calls through the watch?

Now this was impressive. It is just like using a mobile phone on load speak. 
It’s loud so you don’t need to look silly holding it up to your ear and the microphone is sensitive, so I don’t need to hold it near my mouth.

What did you think about the activity monitor?

If you click the crown button twice, on the watch, you get shown your activity for the day, as a percentage. I’m happy if I’m hitting 80% everyday – it makes me feel like I’m getting on my feet enough but also gives me a little kick of achievement everyday!

The Companion App also means my family can check up on me and make sure I’m not slobbing in front of the tennis all day!

How does it compare to your previous personal alarm?

Night and day. It beats my previous SOS button product on features and looks.

With my Companion Watch I don’t feel embarrassed to wear it and actually I get a lot of compliments. It works wherever I am and calls my family first, not a monitoring centre. I think there is definitely an audience for those other personal alarm products but for me, the Companion Watch works a lot better.

What are your overall thoughts?

The key thing for me is that the watch doesn’t look like what it is and what it does. 
I don’t feel like a liability wearing it and that my dignity has not been compromised for safety and reassurance. I’m not embarrassed to wear it and I don’t think I’ll be taking it off anytime soon.
